Good Friday is Good - Very Good.
I love Easter. Whilst many enjoy the hustle and bustle of Christmas, I personally prefer the quieter period of Easter (perhaps the fact that I have not been to the Show in recent years has coloured my perception!). But I think there is more going on than just this personal experience.
There is a somber element to Good Friday – it is the day that we remember that Jesus died on the cross, after all. And yet, at the same time, it is this day that has changed human history. There is much confusion today about what Christianity is all about – and its core is here.
Good Friday, today, is the day that we remember that Jesus died on the cross so that our sins can be forgiven. It was tragic for Jesus, for he went through such an unjust ‘trial.’ He was mocked. He was humiliated. Ultimately he was killed in the place of someone else who deserved punishment. It was terrible, for Jesus.
But it is breathtaking for you, because it is the way that you can be forgiven and rescued. He can become your king because Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God (1 Peter 3:18). This is why Good Friday is so good – because each one of us can be forgiven.
May I encourage you this Good Friday, and Easter, to remember all that Jesus has done? He went through these horrific events for your sake.
