This week, the bus left the car park with 28 teenagers plus leaders and others to the annual One80 camp. Many years ago, the then leaders of our youth group decided on the name ‘One80’, signifying the turnaround that the Lord Jesus provides. It is a name that has stuck.
The sad reality is that our world is offering more and more dangerous options for teenagers today. A common, but sad reality is that teenagers often drift from the Christian roots of Christian parents. It is a vital time for teenagers to take on what they have been taught for themselves. And an active Christian community is an important part of that for many people.
In recent years, we have heard the stories from a number of people for whom the One80 youth group has been instrumental in people coming to know Jesus, and become established as Christians. We delight in, for example the confirmation of young people as taking such a step.
This weekend is the annual One80 Youth Camp. So many children do not end up at church when they grow up. Over a third of those in church at the age of 14 will not be at church in their future. The Lord has provided a Christian community to help in many ways, including the develop the faith of those who are growing up in our midst.
But this weekend is one of celebration. Over 25 teenagers are or have been away at the One80 Camp this week. And, they will be running 6pm church when they return. If you are reading this in the morning, please come and support them!
Thanks to the leaders, many of whom have taken annual leave to participate. Will you join me in praying that this year’s One80 Youth Camp will see the lives of many experience a One80 degree turn?
