The fruit of the Spirit is the visible evidence of the invisible life of Christ within us: it is not something we manufacture by effort, but the gracious work of God's Spirit as we abide in Christ. These Christ-like qualities both assure us of God's transforming work and bear witness to the world, calling us not to anxious self-reliance but to walk by the Spirit, trusting him to produce in us what reflects the character of Jesus.
